| Why Do Drains Block? |
Properly installed drains should not normally block.
If they do, there is usually a cause that can be cured.
Perhaps the most common causes for drain blockages are: |

| Deformed pitch fibre drains, which are prone to softening and collapse – particularly if the house was built in the 1960’s or 70’s. |
| Tree or shrub roots in the drain. They grow through pipe joints, cracked or broken pipes, also through manhole walls or under the manhole cover. |
| Excessive amounts of kitchen grease deposited into the drains. |
| Poor design of manholes – side inlets too square and not swept into the main channel. |
| Displaced joints in the drain run. |
| Poor fall – pipes may have sunk. |
| Broken or collapsed pipes. |
| Corrosion in cast iron drains. |
| Come autumn, fallen leaves are a major cause of blockages. |

Solving The Blockage |

 ’s expert engineers are excellently equipped to deal with any blockage. Dependent on the severity of the blockage, we either use robust drainage rods or, if the problem is more severe, the very latest in high pressure jetting and electro-mechanical technology to allow our engineers to skilfully unblock drains, sinks, toilets and showers. |
When we have your drains free-flowing once more we then go one step further, probing further to try and identify why the blockage occurred, making recommendations if necessary in order that it does not happen again. Should you wish us to, our skilled engineers are then able to carry out these recommendations.

| Tree Roots |
| Tree roots infiltrating into drains, either through joints or through cracks in the pipe itself, are also a frequent and unavoidable cause of blockages. To solve this problem we: |

Use our high definition CCTV cameras to survey the affected drain, expertly diagnosing the problem. |

Our highly trained engineers then use the latest in remote cutting tools to remove root growth, allowing the drains to run freely again. |

To prevent re-occurrence of the problem we recommended that the affected pipe, and any pipes in the close proximity, are re-lined (see relining section) to prevent the problem re-occurring. |
